Considering Abortion?
what should you do first?
If you are considering an abortion or the abortion pill (medication abortion), the first step is to get an ultrasound. A confirmation ultrasound can help you verify that you’re really pregnant, that your pregnancy is even viable, verify the location of the pregnancy (rule out an ectopic pregnancy) and determine how far along the pregnancy is (which determines what kind of abortion an abortion clinic can offer you and the cost of that abortion procedure). We provide confirmation ultrasounds by a licensed medical professional at no charge with no insurance needed.
We are honored to provide a safe place in Traverse City, MI, to gather medically accurate information about your pregnancy and pregnancy options (abortion, adoption or parenting), from a source that does not profit from abortion, adoption or any of your pregnancy decisions. We are not an abortion clinic or an abortion referral service, but we are here as a team of fellow women to serve and support you, without pressure or judgment.

Why an Ultrasound is Essential Before an Abortion:
First, it is important to determine if you are really pregnant. This cannot be done through a pregnancy test alone. A confirmation ultrasound can medically verify your pregnancy test results and help you determine if there is a viable pregnancy to terminate.
Abortion options and costs vary significantly depending on the gestational age of the fetus. The cost for medication abortion (abortion pills) and surgical abortion can range anywhere from around $600-$3,000, so it is important to know exactly how far along you are before scheduling an abortion. Knowing how far along you are determines what kind of abortion procedures are or aren't available to you at various clinics, and an ultrasound is the best tool to gather this information.
Not all pregnancies implant in the uterus. A pregnancy outside of the uterus, most commonly known as Ectopic or Tubal pregnancy, is a life-threatening situation. Early detection is essential, and a confirmation ultrasound can help rule this out and determine the location of the pregnancy for you. A medical abortion (abortion pill) only terminates a pregnancy inside the uterus and would not eliminate an ectopic pregnancy.
There is a chance your pregnancy may end naturally, so before scheduling an abortion, you need to confirm that the pregnancy is viable (it's possible to get a positive pregnancy test, even while in the early stages of miscarriage). According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), "Early pregnancy loss is common, occurring in 10% of all clinically recognized pregnancies. Approximately 80% of all cases of pregnancy loss occur within the first trimester."
"Thrive is an amazing pregnancy resource. From the second you walk in the door you are treated with courtesy and respect. The women here calmly guide you through your options, how procedures work, and what to expect. I felt more personal connection and genuine care during 1 hour at Thrive than years at traditional OB-GYN."
